Cpl. Bernard Marks, M. M.

Cpl. Marks joined the Army in 1936,
and was posted to the 16/5th Lancers, with whom he served two years
in India. He then returned to this country and was transferred to
another regiment, and volunteered to go abroad, and served in the
Libyan and North African Campaign.
Cpl. Marks received his decoration
while serving in Italy. The official citation reads “For
distinguished services.” Cpl. Marks was in a very successful
skirmish with the enemy and excelled himself in bringing back eight
prisoners, together with his section. Later they sustained heavy
shellflre and Cpl. Marks was slightly wounded in the arm.

Received this high award for Courage,
Determination and Efficiency.
The Citation says:
“Flight/Lieut . Brown has completed
his third tour of operational duty as Squadron Gunnery Leader, on
one occasion he destroyed 2 Italian aircraft during one operational
Sortie, his courage, determination and efficiency have in no small
way contributed to the success of the squadron.”
