Letters
I found these as negatives in a pile of stuff my
father must have sent years ago. Does anyone have any idea of the
occasion?
I think it was in the late 1960's after I left
Middlesbrough. I had my Bar Mitzvah reception in the communal hall in
1956. I see Alicia Schoemann featured prominently in both pictures and
I believe at some point she gave an operatic recital at a fundraiser.
I'm still in contact with her great nieces, Susi and Ivy Stern in
Mexico. We spent the New Year in Acapulco with Ivy and her family.
I also found originals of these pictures which I've
scanned.. I recognize a number of people in them.

This is labelled Purim 1950. At the front (L to R) I see
Estelle Levy, Leon Vyner, Wendy Fleischmann, Ruth Saville, Marian
Anderson (my cousin from South Shields). Next row back I see David Baum,
Fay Rurka, me, Tania Solomon, Sylvia Anderson (my cousin), Pamela Cohen.
Behind them I see Sylvia Cohen, Dolly Sive (with Elaine?), Jack Lamb
(Sylvia Cohen's brother), several faces I don't recognize, Mrs. Collins,
Iris Craster, Eve Bharier holding my sister Rose, Gillian Hush. Standing
in the back I see your [Donald's] grandfather (I think) and Sam Doberman.
This picture was taken at one of my birthday parties
(6th? maybe). In the back I see Unknown female, Harry (now Sir Harry)
Solomon, Michael Saville, Geoffrey (now) Selwyn, Stewart Crass (son of
our teacher from Linthorpe School). Next row: David Saville, Bernard
Vyner, Gwendoline Lamb, "Kathleen" (granddaughter of a woman who cleaned
for us), Tania Solomon, Sylvia Schalk, Ruth Saville, Rochelle S. and two
I don't recognize. In front of them I see Leon Vyner and one I don't
recognize then I'm kneeling with my neighbour David Leitch seated on my
left (right in the picture).
